Welcome fellow mamas,
I’m Jess, mother to an amazing little human, wifey-to-be to a wonderful bigger human and advocate for the wellbeing of mothers.
I used to work as a mental health recovery worker for nearly 5 years.
When I lost my first baby in 2016, I began volunteering with SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity).
I have always struggled with anxiety and depression from a young age and believe I had a mild form of postnatal (postpartum) depression after my second son was born (though at the time, I didn’t know this and sought no help).
This was the moment that I decided to do something to help other mothers in the same position. It wasn’t about whether they had previously had mental health issues…the motherhood journey changes us all. It begins before pregnancy and it never ends.
I believe the journey we go through (conceiving, pregnancy, baby loss, birth, recovery, parenting) is the biggest journey anyone can ever experience and is an essential time to cultivate that compassion we have so much of, to ourselves.
Having worked with people in their mental health recovery, I realized how much of this overlapped with becoming a mother.
Self-care, managing our mental health and loving ourselves slips right to the bottom of the to do list when you become a mother. We tend to give give give and very little of that goes on ourselves. I know this because I am guilty of it. I realized it was KEY that I spent time working on myself in order to be a better mother and a happier person. I felt very few people spoke honestly about motherhood – and even less so about mothers mental health and wellbeing.
“At least 1 in 10 women have or develop mental health problems during pregnancy or within the first year of giving birth”
Creating hersilverlinings.com was about inspiring and empowering other mothers to feel they still matter. It is about working on your own self-care and wellbeing…
‘a practice and commitment you make to yourself so that you can feel fulfilled, confident and ready to take on the wonderful (but often overwhelming) world of being a mother, without forgetting who you are along the way’
Nobody can prepare you for these life-changing moments, but I know that having the right emotional and practical tools helped me navigate through this time.
My mission is to support and arm other mothers in this way. This website covers all aspects of motherhood and wellbeing, with a holistic approach to self-care and a healthy mind, body and soul.
I hope you find your tribe here and feel free to connect and share your story with me! Can’t wait to have you along for the journey to a happier you 🙂
